Start with the Stuff You Don’t Need
Walk around and look honestly at what you own. There’s always that pile of old magazines, cracked mugs, or clothes that haven’t seen daylight in years. Get rid of them. Donate if possible or toss what’s beyond use. You’ll end up saving on packing time, truck space, and even a few rupees on the shifting day.
Talk to the Movers Once More
Around day six, just call them. Confirm the timing, pickup spot, and delivery date. Ask small things — will they bring boxes, tape, or bubble wrap? Do they help reconnect the washing machine? It sounds trivial, but these little talks prevent last-minute stress. Keep their number on speed dial, just in case.
Pack the Essentials Separately
By mid-week, take out one sturdy bag. Put in a change of clothes, phone chargers, basic toiletries, medicines, and some snacks. It’s the “first night” bag — the one thing you’ll be glad you packed when every other box is still sealed.
Label and Click
When you pack, scribble what’s inside each box. “Kitchen – fragile” or “Bedroom – books” is enough. Quick phone photos before sealing fragile stuff also help later if you need to check anything.
Prep Big Appliances Early
Unplug the fridge a day before. Let it defrost and dry fully. Do the same with washing machines — drain and clean them. Secure the cords and leave fridge doors open overnight. It avoids moisture and weird smells later.
